The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has achieved a significant breakthrough by apprehending one of its most-wanted gangsters, Mohammed Gaus Niyazi, in South Africa.

This arrest comes after the agency placed a reward of 5 lakh rupees on Niyazi, elevating him to a high-profile target.

Accused of the murder of RSS leader Rudresh in Bangalore in 2016, Mohammed Gaus Niyazi is a prominent leader within the Popular Front of India (PFI). Following the crime, Niyazi successfully evaded authorities, residing in various countries to avoid capture.

The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) played a pivotal role in tracking Niyazi's movements, sharing crucial information with the central agency. This collaboration led to the alerting of South African authorities, resulting in the successful apprehension of the fugitive on their soil.

Niyazi's alleged involvement in the murder of Rudresh sent shockwaves across the nation, prompting a relentless pursuit by law enforcement agencies.

Upon his detention in South Africa, the extradition process promptly commenced, with the fugitive now en route to India. Sources indicate that he is currently being escorted to Mumbai, where he will face trial for his alleged role in the murder of the RSS leader.
