NEET success story turns into paper leak scandal for family
text_fieldsNew Delhi: The Rajasthan-based Biwal family, once celebrated on social media after five members secured admissions to government medical colleges through NEET UG 2025, has now landed at the centre of the massive NEET paper leak investigation that shocked the country and forced authorities to cancel the examination conducted on May 3. The CBI has arrested Dinesh Biwal, Mangilal Biwal and family member Vikas Biwal for their alleged involvement in the leak network.
The family had earlier been projected as a remarkable success story by coaching centres and supporters after all five candidates from the same household cracked the highly competitive examination together. However, investigators later discovered serious irregularities in their academic records and score patterns. Several members of the family had scored only average marks in Classes 10 and 12 and had performed poorly in earlier NEET attempts and coaching tests before recording sudden and dramatic jumps in their 2025 scores.
Mangilal Biwal’s son Vikas, who reportedly scored only 270 marks out of 720 in NEET 2024, later secured admission to Sawai Madhopur Medical College after a sharp improvement in his 2025 performance. Similar unusual jumps were allegedly recorded in the scores of Pragati, Gunjan, Saniya and Palak Biwal, all of whom later obtained admissions to government medical colleges in Jaipur, Mumbai and Varanasi.
The CBI investigation has now exposed an alleged multi-state paper leak network stretching across Rajasthan, Maharashtra and other states. Investigators traced the leak trail through accused persons, including Nashik-based Shubham Khairnar and Pune resident Yash Yadav. Agencies suspect that leaked question papers were circulated to candidates after huge payments running into lakhs of rupees.
CBI teams later raided the Biwal family’s residences and a nearby farmhouse, seized crucial documents and inspected luxury vehicles parked on the property. Mangilal and Dinesh Biwal were remanded to seven days of CBI custody, while agencies continue searching for the absconding family member, Hrishi Biwal.
