Mumbai: Following the raids at the Mumbai and Nagpur residences of former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, NCP MP Supriya Sule called it a "blatant misuse of central agencies". She added that it seems to be "BJP's style of operation".

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) searched the residences of Anil Deshmukh on Friday in connection with money laundering allegations against him. Mumbai Police chief Param Bir Singh accused Deshmukh of recruiting policemen to collect Rs 100 crore from business owners for him, reported The Indian Express.

State NCP chief Jayant Patil backed her saying the raids are being conducted because the investigation did not result in any evidence. Now, they are trying to frame Deshmukh by digging up 10-year-old cases. The ED had raided the homes of some businessmen associated with Deshmukh last month.

Sule, being the daughter of NCP Chief and political veteran Sharad Pawar, told The Indian Express that Maharashtra has always had a political culture but it does not involve harassing opponents.

Sule said that it is not the first time the BJP has accused the Congress of emergency excesses, but an incident like today's has probably never been seen or heard. She added her party will fight back.

Shiv Sena spokesperson Sanjay Raut echoed a similar sentiment and said that the BJP is harassing opponents unnecessarily. He added that if there is a case fit for CBI to investigate, it is the Ayodhya land scandal, said The Indian Express report.

BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar said that the CBI should be allowed to do its duties and no one should give it a political colour.

Supriya Sule also criticised the government for using resources to chase vendetta politics instead of tackling Covid-19.
