Meghalaya resident who discovered over 1,700 caves praised by PM Modi in Mann Ki Baat
text_fieldsNew Delhi: During his recent 'Mann Ki Baat' address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the commendable achievements of Brian D Kharpran, a resident of Meghalaya, and his team for their significant contribution in discovering more than 1,700 caves in the state.
PM Modi also encouraged people to explore the stunning caves of Meghalaya, some of which are recognised as the longest and deepest in India.
Highlighting Brian D Kharpran's journey, PM Modi said, "In 1964, he (Brian) conducted his first exploration as a school-going boy. In 1990, he along with his friend established an association, and through this, he started to find out about the unknown caves of Meghalaya." Kharpran, along with his team, has successfully mapped and explored an impressive 537.6 kilometres of caves within the state.
The Prime Minister extended his appreciation to the entire team led by Brian D Kharpran for their relentless efforts and dedication, which have brought Meghalaya to the forefront of cave exploration on a global scale. He emphasised the unique geological marvels of the state, with some of the most extended and deepest caves in the entire country situated there.
PM Modi also encouraged citizens across the nation to consider including a visit to Meghalaya's remarkable caves in their travel plans. The caves, with their captivating beauty and profound history, offer an enriching experience for adventurers and enthusiasts alike. As the founder secretary of the Meghalaya Adventurers' Association, Brian D Kharpran's accomplishments underscore the significance of preserving and celebrating the natural heritage of India.
