Magnitude 5.0 earthquake jolts Arunachal Pradesh

A magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The epicentre was located about 60 km north-northeast of Shi Yomi district.
There were no immediate reports of casualties, injuries or damage to property. Local authorities are monitoring the situation.
Arunachal Pradesh, which falls under Seismic Zone V, is among India's most earthquake-prone regions and has experienced several tremors in recent months.
On July 16, a magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck Upper Siang district in Arunachal Pradesh. Earlier, in April, a magnitude 4.8 earthquake hit Assam's Hailakandi district.
Shi Yomi is a sparsely populated mountainous district bordering the Tibet region. Its rugged terrain and scattered settlements could delay damage assessment and emergency response if any impact is reported.
The north-eastern region is prone to frequent earthquakes due to the ongoing collision of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, which generates seismic activity along the Himalayan belt.
