Jharkhand girl dies by suicide after being beaten for wearing ‘Bindi’ to school
text_fieldsDhanbad: National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has taken cognizance of the suicide of a school girl in Jharkand’s Dhanbad reportedly after she was beaten for wearing bindi to school.
The girl died by suicide on Monday after she was allegedly beaten for wearing a bindi on her forehead at school, NDTV reported citing officials.
NCPCR chairperson, Priyank Kanoongo on Tuesday confirmed the girl’s suicide in a tweet, citing reports.
The NCPCR team will go to Dhanbad for details of the girl’s death and further investigation.
Meanwhile, the girl’s family and people in the neigbourhood protested against the school management.
The teacher who is accused of beating the girl has been arrested after the incident was reported, Uttam Mukherjee, Chairperson of Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Dhanbad, Jharkhand, said.
‘It is a serious matter. The school is also not affiliated to the CBSE board. I have told the District Education Officer. I met the victim's family today. The accused has been arrested,’ Mukherjee reportedly tweeted.
