Bengaluru: Activist Irom Sharmila, who is known for years of her hunger strike, on Friday the blamed the Centre for not intervening ‘at the right time’ to stop the horrific incident of naked parading of two women in Manipur.

Sharmila said she ‘felt numb and disturbed’ at the sight of women paraded naked by a crowd, NDTV reported.

She told the outlet that it was an "inhuman" incident, adding that it was not about any particular community.

The parading incident caused a turmoil in both houses of parliament where the opposition called for a detailed discussion on Manipur violence.

Four men have been arrested in connection with parading the women who are believed to have been gang-raped afterwards in field.

One of the victims later disclosed that they were left to the angry ‘mob by the police’, causing widespread protest.

The Indian Express reported that the younger one of the two women was ‘brutally gang-raped in the broad daylight’.

Police on Thursday morning arrested one of the accused a 32-year-old man identified as Huirem Heradas Singh after the video went viral.

Footage showed him, wearing green T-shirt, dragging one of the women.
