text_fieldsNew Delhi: In a remarkable act of bravery and quick thinking, Sepoy (Ambulance Assistant) Sunil of 456 Field Hospital saved the life of an eight-month-old infant who suffered a sudden medical emergency onboard the Rajdhani Express en route to Dibrugarh.
The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on October 13, 2025, in the S4 compartment, when the infant went into respiratory distress and became unresponsive, causing panic among passengers. The child’s mother, overcome with shock, fainted, further adding to the chaos.
Sepoy Sunil, returning from leave and travelling in the same coach, immediately assessed the situation and found the child without a pulse or respiration. Acting swiftly, he laid the infant on a flat surface and performed paediatric CPR, using two-finger chest compressions along with mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
After two cycles of CPR, the child showed signs of life, bringing relief to the family and fellow passengers. Sunil then coordinated with train staff and the Railway Police to ensure the infant’s medical evacuation at Rangiya station for further care.
A defence official praised Sunil, saying, “Sepoy Sunil’s timely, professional, and selfless actions undoubtedly prevented a potential tragedy and brought reassurance to many aboard.” The official added that Sunil’s intervention underscored the critical importance of trained medical personnel, even outside clinical settings.
Throughout the ordeal, Sepoy Sunil demonstrated exceptional medical skill, quick judgment, and a strong sense of duty.
