FIR filed against BJP leader in Madhya Pradesh after video of assault goes viral
text_fieldsAn FIR has been registered against BJP Nagod Mandal president Pulkit Tandon in Madhya Pradesh’s Satna district following allegations that he assaulted and threatened a young woman inside a warehouse.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has also issued a show-cause notice to Tandon after a purported video of the incident circulated widely on social media.
Police said the incident took place around 10 pm on Tuesday in the Nagod police station area.
According to the complaint, the woman was called to a warehouse on the pretext of attending to a customer, using the mobile phone of Tandon’s associate. She alleged that after entering the warehouse, she found Tandon consuming alcohol.
The woman claimed that when she attempted to leave, Tandon grabbed her hand. She said she threw his mobile phone in an effort to escape and ran out, after which Tandon chased her and hurled a liquor bottle at her. She also said that he slapped her, pushed her, and caused her to fall against an iron rod.
According to the complaint, when the woman did not return home for a long time, her mother and brother reached the warehouse. She said that when they tried to intervene and began recording the incident, Tandon and his associate assaulted them as well. The woman later went to the Nagod police station with her family members and lodged a complaint.
A senior police officer said an FIR has been registered and the investigation is underway, including examination of the video evidence. He added that Tandon has not yet been questioned and that the two parties had known each other for years but had a falling out, which is also being investigated.
Following the video going viral, BJP district general secretary Ramakant Gautam issued a show-cause notice to Tandon, seeking his explanation in connection with the incident.
