New Delhi: Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri made an unconditional apology to the Delhi High Court in an affidavit on Tuesday over his controversial tweet a couple of years ago.

Agnihotri in 2018 tweeted that Justice S Muralidhar was biased for reportedly quashing activist Gautam Navlakha's house arrest order and transit remand in the Bhima Koregaon violence case.

At the last hearing, the director of 'The Kashmir Files' was asked by the court to be present in person on March 16.

Justice S Muralidhar is currently the Chief Justice of Orissa High Court.

Following his remarks, the court started contempt proceedings against Vivek Agnihotri, writer Anand Ranganathan, and news portal Swarajya.

The filmmaker submitted the apology affidavit through his lawyer saying that he had deleted the controversial tweet.

The Amicus Curiae, appointed by court to assist it, claimed Twitter had taken it down.

RSS ideologue S Gurumurthy earlier apologised to the court over some of his remarks and the charges were dropped.

Pune police earlier linked the alleged inflammatory speeches made at the 'Elgar Parishad' conclave in Pune on December 31, 2017 to the violence the next day near the Koregaon Bhima war memorial.
