Doda bus accident: 36 dead and 19 hurt in Jammu and Kashmir
text_fieldsSrinagar: A bus carrying 55 passengers veered off the road near Trungal-Assar on the Batote-Kishtwar national highway in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district.
The bus plunged 300 feet downhill, resulting in the loss of 36 lives and leaving 19 individuals injured, said Jammu Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar.
Expressing grief over the unfortunate incident, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh said, "Saddened to share the update from DC #Doda Sh Harvinder Singh from the spot of the accident. Unfortunately 36 persons have died and 19 injured, out of whom 6 injured are serious."
He further informed about the immediate medical assistance being provided to the injured, who are being transported to government-run hospitals in Doda and Kishtwar.
Singh also mentioned arranging a helicopter service to swiftly airlift the critically injured individuals. "Injured being shifted to District Hospital Kishtwar and GMC Doda as per requirement. Helicopter service to be arranged for shifting the more injured ones. All possible help, as required being provided," he added.
President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended their condolences.
Murmu expressed sorrow in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating, "I am deeply saddened by the news of the unfortunate death of several passengers in a bus accident in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir. I express my condolences to the bereaved family members and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured," in Hindi.
The Prime Minister's office released a statement expressing distress over the bus accident. "The bus accident in Doda, Jammu and Kashmir is distressing. My condolences to the families who have lost their near and dear ones. I pray that the injured recover at the earliest," said the Prime Minister.
He also assured compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 assistance to the injured individuals.
