Delhi Police closes enquiry into 'Congress Toolkit' tweets

New Delhi: The Delhi Police's Special Cell closed down their enquiry on the complaint given by the Congress a month ago regarding certain BJP leaders' social media posts showing alleged "Congress toolkit", reports The Indian Express.

Sources from Delhi Police informed that the investigation team of the Special Cell, New Delhi Range, was asked by their senior officials to shut the enquiry down a few days before. They added that the investigation is closed after the complainants decided to pursue the case in Chhattisgarh. The Chhattisgarh state police had registered a case against BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra and former Chief minister Raman Singh for their 'toolkit' tweets.

Before the complainants changed their decision, the police investigation team was trying to understand the whole chain of the issue before approaching the alleged persons; an officer had told The Indian Express.

It was in May, certain BJP leaders had tweeted a document with a letterhead printed as "AICC Research Department". They alleged that it was a 'toolkit' to destroy Prime Minister Narendra Modi's image. Following that, Twitter has marked the tweets, including Sambit Patra's, as 'manipulated media'.

Following that, an FIR was filed against Patra and Raman Singh in Chhattisgarh for alleged forgery of the Congress party letterhead and its misuse. The police had questioned Twitter India Managing Director Manish Maheshwari in Bengaluru and visited Twitter India's office in New Delhi. They had questioned Congress's social media head Rohan Gupta and party spokesperson MV Rajeev Gowda. It was Gowda who filed the complaint against the alleged 'Congress toolkit' tweet.

However, Patra, whose tweet was among those flagged 'manipulated', was left by the police from interrogation.

Gowda said on May 25 that they have responded to the Delhi Police's notice that they decided to pursue the case against Patra and Singh in Chhattisgarh.
