A Dalit man was coerced into arranging a feast worth Rs 11,000 for entering a Lakshmi Devi temple in a village at Karatagi. The incident took place about 11 days ago, and eight people have been detained in connection to it.

Superintendent of Police T Sreedhara said that the police are investigating the matter.

A few months ago, a theft had taken place in the village, and everyone except the priest was banned from entering the temple. On Friday, the Dalit man entered the temple against the collective decision as he had taken a vow to conduct some rituals.

The temple priest raised the alarm, and the temple management led by him forced the man to arrange an expensive feast, reported India Today.
