New Delhi: India reported 2,73,810 fresh infections,1,619 deaths and 1,44,178 discharges a new record high, taking the tally to 1.5 crore, on Monday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair an important meeting to review the Covid-19 related situation at 11:30 am today.

Taking into account the severe shortage of hospital beds and medical oxygen in 12 "high-burden states", PM Modi has asked officials to ensure synergy across ministries and state governments to ensure adequate medical grade oxygen supply in the country.

Railways are also planning to run "Oxygen Express Trains" via green corridors to give a boost to the fight against the monstrous virus.

Maharashtra, Delhi and Karnataka continue to show the highest surge in cases in the country. Maharashtra logged 68,631 infections in the last 24 hours, while Delhi reported 25,462 new cases and Karnataka added 19,067 cases.

States like Bihar, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Manipur have announced a series of restrictions to contain the spread of the virus. Apart from imposing night curfew, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has asked to close educational institutions and religious establishments till May 15.

Rajasthan has imposed new curbs under 'jan anushasan pakhwada' or 'self-discipline fortnight.' which will come into effect on Monday and will be in force till May 3.

In Delhi, Mr Kejriwal also red-flagged "acute shortage of oxygen" in a tweet on Sunday.

"In view of sharply increasing cases, Delhi needs much more than normal supply. Rather than increasing supply, our normal supply has been sharply reduced and Delhi's quota has been diverted to other states "he said.

Globally, over 14 crore cases have been recorded so far and 30 lakh deaths.
