Centre is using probe agencies for extortion: Arvind Kejriwal

Ahmedabad: Aam Aadmi Party head Arvind Kejriwal alleged that probe agencies like ED and CBI are being used by the Centre to conduct raids for "extortion" and not to end corruption. He was campaigning in Ahmedabad.

He added that the Centre is scaring people using agencies not to end corruption but for extortion. "All the agencies are being used for extortion. Until the businessmen of the country are rid of fear and can do business freely, the country will not progress."

Speaking about a raid by three policemen at AAP's office in the city, he claimed that the officials asked about money. The police searched the AAP office for two hours and left when party workers said there was no money.

"We are a poor party with no money. Police were asking our people about money. Today, the Ahmedabad police said no raid took place. This is surprising," he stated. The Delhi CM asked whether India is now a police state. "What is going on in this country? Police are entering any house or office without valid papers."

He claimed that the AAP government in Gujarat will be corruption-free and support people to do business freely. Addressing the claims of the BJP against AAP, he said they are doing their best to spread lies across the country saying that Kejriwal is involved in the liquor scam and Manish Sisodia is behind Rs 144 cr corruption. Backing his deputy, he said the ED could not even find Rs 10,000 by raiding Sisodia's house.

He claimed that the raids in the houses of AAP leaders yielded nothing because his party and its leaders are honest and do not take money. "They keep talking about such things. The public is watching. When we formed the government in Delhi, we stopped all the raids," said Kejriwal.

Kejriwal further said that India cannot progress until businessmen are free from the fear of raids. Speaking ahead of state elections in December 2022, he asked the business sector of Gujarat to support AAP in the Assembly polls. He added that once AAP has three chief ministers in Delhi, Punjab, and Gujarat, the party can ask for simplification of GST. "We will be heard more."
