Chandigarh: The Cybercrime Police has registered a case against preacher Baldev Singh Ugran after a woman accused Ugran of uploading edited photos of her on social media alongside threatening her.
The woman, who volunteers in langar services at gurdwaras in Mohali and Chandigarh, said in her complaint that she had previously filed a case against a man called Harjit Singh, The Indian Express reported.
It was during the investigation that she reportedly came in contact with Baldev Singh Ugran.
She alleged that Harjit Singh with the help of his manager Gaurav Jalota accessed her phone and extracted photos before having them edited in an objectionable manner.
When she refused to withdraw the case, Ugran allegedly uploaded these images on his Facebook page alongside threatening to harm her family.
The victims said that ‘I feel mentally and financially distressed, and constantly unsafe’.
Denying the allegations, Ugran said ‘No photos were uploaded from my Facebook ID’, alleging that the woman filed a false complaint for blackmailing him.
A case was registered against Ugran after a witness, identified as Harmanjit Singh, showed the police a screen recording that confirmed obscene images had been uploaded on Ugran’s Facebook page.
