Amit Shah, BJP leadership failed to protect Christians: Mizoram BJP vice-president quits
text_fieldsImphal: Lashing out at the BJP central leadership’s dead silence over the ongoing violence in Manipur, Vanramchhuanga, the Vice-President of the BJP in Mizoram, tendered his resignation. He blamed Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh for failing to protect Christians and their places of worship.
In his resignation letter submitted to Mizoram BJP Chief Vanlalhmuaka, Vanramchhuanga cited the centre government's indifference towards the Christian community in the ongoing ethnic conflict between Kuki-Zomi tribals and non-tribal Meiteis in neighbouring Manipur.
Vanramchhuanga, a prominent church elder at the local Presbyterian Church, expressed deep concern over what he referred to as "anti-Christian activities" taking place in Manipur.
In his resignation letter, submitted to Mizoram BJP Chief Vanlalhmuaka, Vanramchhuanga expressed his distress over the wanton destruction of Christian churches, pastor quarters, and office buildings in Manipur.
According to his account, Meitei militants have burned down a staggering 357 Christian establishments. The former BJP Vice-President squarely blamed Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for failing to protect the victims and their places of worship.
Vanramchhuanga further criticized Amit Shah's visit to Imphal, the capital of Manipur, where he stayed for three days and two nights, but the violence continued unabated. He lamented the silence of the country's leaders, including Amit Shah, on the issue, claiming that they have not condemned the violence or extended support to the affected communities.
Expressing his disillusionment, Vanramchhuanga declared the BJP an "anti-Christian party" and stated that it was his moral obligation to not only resign from the party but also relinquish his designation.
His resignation, he emphasized, was a form of protest against the perceived collusion between the state and central authorities in the "massive demolition" of Christian churches in Manipur.
