Donor of Rs 100 crore cheque to temple actually has Rs 17 in account
text_fieldsSimhachalam: A donation with a whopping Rs 100 crore cheque to the Sri Varahalakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple in Simhachalam, Andhra Pradesh, by a devotee initially shocked the temple authorities. However, a subsequent investigation revealed that the account holder only had a meagre Rs 17 in his account, rendering the donation a hoax.
The temple's staff discovered the massive amount on the cheque placed in the donation box. The account holder's name, Boddepalli Radhakrishna, was etched on the cheque, but it curiously lacked a date. Swiftly responding to the unusual occurrence, the temple's Executive Officer, Trinadh Rao, instructed his team to initiate an investigation into the matter.
Upon closer inspection, the temple authorities found that the donor's bank account held a paltry balance of Rs 17. Perplexed by this discrepancy, they promptly reached out to bank officials for clarification. The bank's report confirmed the startling truth – the account holder, Radha Krishna, indeed had only Rs 17 in their account.
Amidst the speculations, the temple authorities have requested access to the account holder's contact details from the bank officials. If evidence suggests ill intentions, the temple administration is contemplating legal action for a potential cheque bounce case.
Instances of faux donations are not new to the temple, according to a temple official who shared insights with NewsMeter. "While we frequently receive such deceptive cheques, we've never encountered such a colossal sum being involved," the official stated. The temple has become accustomed to receiving outdated notes, tattered bills, and archaic cheques from devotees.
Public reactions to the incident have been a mixed bag, with opinions flooding social media platforms. On X (formerly Twitter), a user offered a novel perspective, defending the devotee's actions: "Perhaps this individual sought divine financial aid, depositing an undated cheque as an instalment. Regular citizens can't orchestrate money schemes like politicians and others."
