5.9 magnitude earthquake strikes Myanmar, tremors felt in Kolkata

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
Residents in Kolkata reported feeling mild shaking as the tremors travelled across the region following the quake in Myanmar. Authorities have not issued any alerts so far, and officials said the situation is being monitored.
The development comes a day after two separate earthquakes were recorded in India on Monday.
According to the National Centre for Seismology, an earthquake of magnitude 4.6 hit the Andaman and Nicobar Islands at around 3.30 am. The quake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres, with its epicentre located at latitude 9.03 degrees north and longitude 92.78 degrees east.
Another earthquake of magnitude 4.6 struck Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district early on Monday. Officials said the tremor was recorded at around 5.35 am, with the Pattan area identified as the epicentre.
No damage or loss of life was reported from either of the earthquakes in India. Authorities said there is no cause for alarm but advised people to remain alert, as the region lies in a seismically active zone.
