JALAUN: 296-km-long Bundelkhand Expressway, passing through seven Uttar Pradesh districts was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday. The highway has been constructed at a cost of around Rs 14,850 crore.

At the inauguration ceremony at Kaitheri village in Orai tehsil of Jalaun district, Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister welcomed the PM by offering him 'Bundeli', a local stole.

The foundation stone for the highway construction was laid by Modi on February 29, 2020, and took around 28 months to complete construction.

Merging with the Agra-Lucknow Expressway near Kudrail village in Etawah district, starting from NH-35 at Gonda village near Bharatkoop in Chitrakoot district.

The Expressway passes through seven districts -- Chitrakoot, Banda, Mahoba, Hamirpur, Jalaun, Auraiya and Etawah. It is a four-lane expressway, which can be later expanded into six lanes.

The Expressway not only improves the connectivity in the region, but the government also hopes that the Bundelkhand Expressway will provide a major boost to economic development and create thousands of jobs for the local people.

Work has already started to create an industrial corridor in Banda and Jalaun districts next to the expressway.
