10 Dalit professors allege discrimination in Bangalore University; resigns
text_fieldsAt least ten Dalit professors at Bangalore University have stepped down from their administrative posts, citing discriminatory treatment in how responsibilities were assigned to them.
The professors claimed that while they had previously been given formal administrative duties in addition to their academic roles, they were now being designated merely as "in-charge," a label they say diminishes their authority and denies them access to earned leave benefits that would typically come with such roles.
In a letter to the university registrar, the professors expressed concern that the responsibilities assigned to them were just mentioned as ‘in-charge’, and also trying to avoid the Earned Leaves credited to their accounts.
They emphasised that this issue had been brought to the university's attention multiple times but was met with silence, Siasat Daily reported.
Frustrated by the lack of response, the group collectively resigned from their additional roles.
Those stepping down included Prof. C Somashekar, Director of the Ambedkar Research Centre; Nagesh PC, Director of Student Welfare; Sudesh V, Coordinator of the PM-USHA scheme; and Muralidhar BL, Director of Distance and Online Education.
