Mumbai: A one-year-old child from Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, has reportedly become the youngest in the country to swim 100 metres, earning a spot in the India Book of Records. According to an Instagram post highlighting the achievement, the record authorities sent an official email confirming the feat.

The India Book of Records said that the child, Veda Paresh, swam 100 metres, equivalent to four laps, at the Ratnagiri municipal swimming pool, completing the distance in 10 minutes and 8 seconds. Veda is just 1 year, 9 months, and 10 days old. The organisation described her accomplishment as exceptional for someone so young.

The email, dated November 25, noted that Veda Paresh Sarfare, born on January 22, 2024, had now become the youngest swimmer to cover 100 metres. Her Instagram page features several clips showing her confidently diving and swimming laps.

The message also stated that she completed the four laps across a 25-metre pool at the municipal facility within the record time.

In a similar achievement, a 10-year-old girl, Aanvi Shailesh Suvarna, reportedly swam 17 kilometres in open sea from Atal Setu to the Gateway of India.

Hailing from Dombivli, Aanvi has been counted among the youngest swimmers in the country to complete such a long sea route. The achievement was especially memorable because she finished the swim on her tenth birthday.
