The Lagaan artist was found dead by suicide at his ND Studios in Karjat on August 2, shocking the entire industry.
The police officials revealed that an audio recording from Desai's phone was allegedly recovered during the investigation, which mentioned four names. Based on this evidence, the Khalapur police have taken action and registered an FIR in connection with Nitin Desai's death case.
According to reports, the FIR has been filed under IPC sections 306 (abetting suicide) and 34 IPC (common intention) against five individuals associated with ECL Finance company and Edelweiss.
These officials are alleged to have mentally tortured the Jodhaa Akbar art director over a loan he had reportedly borrowed. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had earlier announced a probe into the lending firm from which Nitin Desai had taken a loan.
The investigation will focus on whether the private lending firm charged high interest rates, leading to stress for the late art director.
Earlier reports had indicated that Desai's company had defaulted on a Rs 252 crore loan to its financial creditor, as per an insolvency petition filed in a bankruptcy court.
Several celebrities, including Aamir Khan, Ashutosh Gowariker, Mukesh Rishi, and Sonali Kulkarni, attended Nitin Desai's last rites at his studio in Karjat.
Aamir Khan expressed his sadness over the tragic news, stating, "This is very shocking news. I am unable to understand how this happened. I can't believe it. I wish he did not do this and reached out for help instead. But what can we say in such a tragic situation, it is very difficult to understand what has happened. It is very sad...We have lost someone who was very talented."
