Complaint filed against Mumbai woman for confronting BJP minister over rally traffic jam
text_fieldsMumbai: Police have received a complaint against a woman who publicly berated Maharashtra minister Girish Mahajan over traffic disruptions from a BJP rally in Worli.
The incident unfolded on Tuesday amid a BJP procession protesting opposition parties' role in stalling the Constitution Amendment Bill for 33% women's reservation in Parliament and state assemblies. The woman accosted Mahajan while he addressed reporters, demanding the rally move to a nearby open ground to ease commuter chaos: "Get out of here. You are causing a traffic jam."
Filed on Wednesday at Worli police station by Zen Sadavarte—daughter of advocate Gunaratna Sadavarte—the complaint accuses the woman of creating a ruckus with abusive language, obstructing public servants, and insulting police, representatives, and constitutional processes. Sadavarte seeks charges under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 132, 195, 221, 352, and 353, covering obstruction, assault on duty, intentional insult, and public mischief.
Mahajan acknowledged her frustration "to some extent" but deemed her language inappropriate, stating no action would follow. BJP Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde apologised for commuter inconvenience, while police have charged rally organisers for norm violations.
