Colin Firth to play notorious novelist Michael Peterson

The English actor Colin Firth has endorsed on to play infamous American writer Michael Peterson in a limited drama web series named , "The Staircase".

Peterson was sentenced in 2003 for killing his second spouse, Kathleen Peterson, in 2001.Though he had claimed to be innocent of the crime at the time, saying that his better half had died after falling down the stairs, police investigation alluded to the reason for death being homicidal assault. In 2017, Peterson presented a plea and was condemned to time previously served in jail and was accordingly freed. The case was earlier featured in a documentary titled "The Staircase", which came out in 2004.

"With the enormously talented Colin Firth at the centre of this adaptation, the story of 'The Stair case' will continue to captivate audiences with every bizarre twist and turn," said Sarah Aubrey, head of original content for HBO Max, to Variety.com.

The eight-episode series will be aired on HBO Max.
