Kareema Begum, the mother of music composer A.R.Rahman passed away on Monday in Chennai due to ill health.Rahman has posted a photo of her on Twitter as tribute.
She was reportedly diagnosed with COVID-19 earlier this year. Rahman shared a deep bond with his mother, to whom he credits his successful career. Kareena Begum raised Rahman alone after the death of his father, conductor R.K.Shekhar who was well-known for his contributions to Malayalam films.
The Oscar-winning musician has previously said that it was her decision which prompted him to pursue music. Many sent messages of love and support to AR Rahman and his family.
The cremation of her body is reported to take place today.
