Fatullah: It was a perfect toss to win for captain Virat Kohli as India openers Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan piled on runs at a good run rate without losing a wicket before rain interrupted play in the morning session on Day 1 of the lone Test against Bangladesh here on Wednesday.

Left-hander Dhawan (74 not out) was in rollicking form as he notched up his 13th Test half-century in only 47 balls to keep the scoreboard ticking. Vijay was a little slow off the blocks but gradually found rhythm to reach 33 not out when rain halted play minutes before lunch time.

Dhawan looked in sublime touch as he caressed 12 boundaries in the first session while his partner eked out four at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium.

There was early movement for Bangladeshi pacer Mohammad Shahid but the Indian batsmen saw him off and started plundering runs.

The Bangladeshi fielders did not back their bowlers as they dropped a couple of chances which could have turned the match in their favour.

Only 23.3 overs had been bowled when the skies opened, the players rushed back to the pavilion and covers came on the ground. Minutes later, umpires declared lunch.
