India’s PC shipments grew 3.8% in 2024, HP leads market while Acer records fastest growth
text_fieldsIndia’s PC market saw a steady 3.8% year-over-year (YoY) growth in 2024, with total shipments reaching 14.4 million units, according to a recent report by market research firm IDC.
The growth was primarily driven by public sector purchases, increased demand for gaming PCs, and the rising adoption of AI-powered computers.
HP maintained its position as the market leader, followed by Lenovo and Dell, while Acer recorded the highest growth among the top five brands.
The notebook category registered a 4.5% YoY growth, while desktop shipments increased by 1.8% YoY. The workstation segment experienced the highest growth, rising 10.9% YoY.
The fourth quarter (Q4) of 2024 witnessed an overall market expansion of 6.9% YoY, with notebook shipments soaring 9.6% YoY. Premium notebooks, in particular, saw a 13.8% YoY surge.
In terms of segments, the consumer market grew by 2.6% YoY. The commercial segment expanded by 5.1% YoY. The enterprise and government sectors recorded an impressive 10.6% YoY growth.
HP retained its top position with a 30.1% market share. The company’s government and enterprise sales grew 14.7% and 14.3% YoY, respectively, but its consumer segment declined by 7.5% YoY due to heightened competition, especially in online retail.
Lenovo secured the second spot with a 17.2% market share. It saw a 7% YoY increase in the consumer segment and a 7.4% YoY rise in commercial sales, supported by strong enterprise shipments and a focused push in e-commerce.
Dell ranked third with a 16.1% market share in 2024.
Acer, taking the fourth spot, captured a 15.1% market share and recorded the highest growth among all brands, thanks to aggressive online sales strategies, competitive pricing, and major discounts. Its consumer segment surged by 48.4% YoY.
Asus secured fifth place with a 7% market share, maintaining a healthy inventory and expanding in the commercial sector with 18.4% YoY growth.
IDC Research Manager Bharath Shenoy highlighted the increasing demand for gaming and AI-powered PCs as a key driver of growth. Since mid-2024, shipments of AI-enabled notebooks have risen significantly, particularly Intel Core Ultra and AMD Ryzen AI-powered devices.
Navkendar Singh, Associate Vice President at IDC India, attributed commercial PC market growth to public sector procurement and corporate refresh cycles. He noted that many PCs purchased during 2020-21 are now reaching their replacement cycle, which is expected to drive further demand in 2025.
However, he warned that a weakening rupee could lead to higher device costs, potentially impacting price-sensitive small and medium businesses (SMBs) and consumers.
