37% of people see quality of life worsening under Modi govt: Survey
text_fieldsAs Delhi is set to embrace the assembly elections while the ruling BJP government at the Centre takes out all its arrows to win the national capital, an economic survey revealed the sober state of citizens, with growing insecurity about a decent income as they see the quality of life expected to deteriorate further in the future.
The pre-budget survey conducted by C-Voter has revealed a growing sense of pessimism among Indians regarding their quality of life, as stagnant wages and rising living costs continue to affect future prospects.
According to the survey, a significant portion of respondents believe the overall quality of life for ordinary citizens will deteriorate over the next year, marking the highest such sentiment since 2013. The results highlight public discontent over economic conditions, with inflation remaining a major issue, as most respondents feel that price rises have not been effectively controlled since Modi took office in 2014.
More than half of those surveyed indicated that inflation has had a negative impact on their lives, while a considerable number reported stagnant personal income amid rising expenses, making it difficult to manage household finances.
The persistent surge in food prices has further weakened the purchasing power of many households, exacerbating financial strain at a time when economic growth is expected to slow to 6.4%—its weakest pace in four years. The middle class, often regarded as a driving force of economic expansion, has been particularly affected and is looking to the upcoming budget session for relief measures.
Concerns over employment remain a key issue, with a large section of India’s youthful workforce struggling to secure stable wages despite the country’s rising global economic standing. In last year’s budget, the finance minister had allocated Rs 2 lakh crore for a package aimed at job creation and employment-related schemes, to be implemented over five years.
However, reports suggest that the initiatives have not yet been executed.
