New Delhi: At least 27 people have been killed in heavy rains pounding Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on Sunday alongside reports of flooding and waterlogging in several areas in both states, NDTV reported.

Footage showed heavy flooding in several residential areas with vehicles remaining submerged and people wading through waist-high waters.

After rivers overflowing in both states, at least 15 people in Telangana and 12 in Andhra Pradesh have been killed on Sunday.

Rescue teams from national and state disaster response forces evacuated thousands of people from flooded areas to relief camps.

Following waterlogging on tracks at several places on the South Central Railway network, more than 100 trains plying in Telangana Andhra Pradesh and other states have been cancelled and several others remain diverted.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday spoke to chief ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana N Chandrababu Naidu and A Revanth Reddy respectively assuring help from the Centre.

The weather department on Sunday, issuing red alert, predicted extremely heavy rains for Monday in several places in Telangana.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy held an emergency review meeting, directing officials to remain alert and urged people not to leave their home unless it is absolutely necessary.

Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh remains the worst hit district of the state with a rivulet overflowing on Sunday, flooding several city localities.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu visited one of the worst affected places, Ajit Singh Nagar in Vijayawada.
