Istanbul: H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Qatar's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, said the international laws that apply to Ukraine also apply to other countries like Palestine.

Reiterating Doha's stance on the sovereignty of nations, he said adhering to the UN Charter and the indivisible principles of international law applies to other issues like putting an end to the Israeli occupation in Palestine and similar issues in other nations, reported The Peninsula Qatar.

He was speaking to the media at a press conference with Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Mevlut Cavusoglu in Istanbul.

The Deputy PM said they discussed the developments of the Palestinian issue and the Declaration of Algiers signed between the Palestinian factions. Qatar is hoping these steps will contribute to ending the state of division affecting the Palestinian cause. He also condemned the Israeli escalation that is occurring daily and drew attention to the violations in the West Bank and repeated incursions into the Al Aqsa Mosque.

Speaking about the Russia-Ukraine crisis, he praised the role Turkey played to achieve stability in food markets and expressed support for diplomatic efforts. He stressed that Qatar rejects the violation of any country's sovereignty, in particular Ukraine's sovereignty. His Excellency also called for efforts to end the war peacefully as quickly as possible.

He also spoke of the repercussions of the Ukraine war on energy markets in which Qatar is a major player. His Excellency added that Doha does not want to be affected by the current escalation between Russia and Ukraine. He said Qatar is in continuous communications with Turkey to make efforts for peace successful.

The Deputy PM also said Qatar and Turkey have agreed to keep enhancing bilateral relations in economic, investment, and trade fields along with cultural ties. He observed that the outcomes of the preparatory ministerial meeting for the eighth meeting of the Qatari-Turkish Supreme Strategic Committee were constructive.

They also spoke about the developments in Syria, Libya, Afghanistan, and Iraq. He said Qatar supports the UN Envoy's work in Syria and a political resolution to end the suffering of the people. The Deputy PM stressed that Qatar's position regarding the unity of Libya is firm and wants the division to end as soon as possible so that the country can have stability and hold elections in accordance with an agreed-upon constitution. Speaking about Afghanistan, he said the current government should put an end to violations some groups of Afghan people are facing.
