A recent Quinnipiac University poll revealed that nearly half of U.S. voters believe Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. Among them, 77% of Democrats and 51% of independents share this view.

In contrast, a majority of Republicans, about 64%, do not believe genocide is occurring, while 20% think otherwise.

The poll also showed that six in ten U.S. voters oppose Washington sending additional military aid to Israel, marking the highest opposition since the survey began addressing this issue in November 2023.

When it comes to sympathies, voters remain nearly evenly divided: 37% said they feel more sympathetic toward Palestinians, while 36% expressed greater sympathy for Israelis, according to Al Jazeera.

According to the poll, the share of Americans expressing sympathy for Palestinians has reached its highest level since the question was first posed in December 2001, while sympathy for Israelis has dropped to its lowest point.

The survey, conducted among 1,220 registered voters, has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.4 percentage points.

Meanwhile, human rights groups such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza, a claim Israel strongly denies. In January last year, the International Court of Justice allowed South Africa’s genocide case against Israel to proceed, stating that Palestinians have “plausible rights to protection from genocide.”

Additionally, in November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, and deceased Hamas commander Mohammed Deif over alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity.
