Pakistan to join Trump’s Gaza Board of Peace
text_fieldsPakistan will join US President Donald Trump’s “Board of Peace” aimed at helping achieve lasting peace in Gaza, the country’s foreign ministry said on Wednesday.
The board was set up late last year under Trump’s Gaza plan and is intended to help resolve global conflicts. While some countries have reacted cautiously to the initiative, the United States has said that more than 20 countries have agreed to join so far.
In a statement, Pakistan’s foreign office said Islamabad’s decision was part of its efforts to support the Gaza plan within the framework of the United Nations Security Council. Pakistan said it hoped the initiative would lead to concrete steps toward the implementation of a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.
The statement also said Pakistan expects the board to contribute to increasing humanitarian assistance and supporting the reconstruction of Gaza after months of conflict.
According to the foreign ministry, Pakistan decided to join the board following an invitation from President Trump to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
