Nablus: The Israeli military on Wednesday killed six Palestinians and around 50 people were shot in a raid in the occupied West Bank city of Nablus. The Palestinian health ministry said six men aged 23 to 72 were killed "as a result of the occupation's aggression on Nablus."

The Israeli military confirmed its forces were operating in the northern West Bank city but did not divulge more details. AFP reported that Israeli forces were seen using tear gas at Palestinians, who burned tyres and threw stones at military vehicles. Troops withdrew after three hours.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society's medics treated 45 gunshot wounds and 250 cases of tear gas inhalation. Local group the Lion's Den posted a message on Telegram which said its fighters are involved in a "battle of honour" against Israeli forces.

United Nations Middle East peace envoy, Tor Wennesland on Monday told the UN Security Council that halting violence is an urgent priority. "We have seen ominous signs of what awaits if we fail to address the current instability." US Secretary of State Antony Blinken told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas to "restore calm".
