Iran reports attack on oil refinery hours after ceasefire
text_fieldsTehran: An oil refinery on Iran’s Lavan Island came under attack on Wednesday, just hours after a ceasefire in the conflict was announced, Iranian state television reported.
According to the report, firefighters were deployed to contain the blaze at the site, while authorities confirmed that no casualties had been reported. The identity of those responsible for the attack was not disclosed.
Iranian authorities described the incident as an “enemy attack,” with the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company confirming that the facility was struck around 10:00 local time. The information was carried by Shana, the news outlet of Iran’s Oil Ministry. Safety and emergency teams were immediately mobilised to secure the site and bring the fire under control.
The strike occurred despite a ceasefire agreement announced on Tuesday between Iran and the United States, in what was seen as a last-minute effort to avert a wider escalation. The two-week truce had also involved Israel and was aimed at preventing the large-scale destruction earlier warned of by US President Donald Trump, who had threatened a bombing campaign targeting Iran.
However, hostilities appeared to resume on Wednesday, with reports of fresh attacks not only in Iran but also across Gulf Arab countries, raising concerns over the durability of the ceasefire.
