India urges citizens to exit Iran amid fragile US-Iran ceasefire
text_fieldsNew Delhi/Tehran: As US and Israeli strikes on Iran enter their sixth week despite a shaky two-week ceasefire, India has advised its nationals to leave the country immediately. Tensions persist with ongoing security alerts and conflicting narratives from all parties.
US President Donald Trump called it a "big day for world peace," pledging aid to ease Strait of Hormuz traffic and rebuild Iran. He hinted at China's role in nudging Iran to negotiate. Israel supports the truce conditionally, while Iran claims victory.
Iran has targeted 19 vessels since hostilities began, disrupting oil supplies and markets. Its foreign minister said safe passage requires coordination with Iranian forces; fees may apply via Iran and Oman during the ceasefire, per Tasnim News Agency.
The Ministry of External Affairs welcomed the ceasefire, urging de-escalation and dialogue to secure navigation in the Strait and stabilize energy trade.
The Indian Embassy in Tehran issued an urgent April 8 advisory: "Expeditiously exit Iran." Nationals must consult the mission before using suggested routes or approaching borders.
