Washington DC: US President Joe Biden stepped aside from the race for President in the upcoming presidential elections in America. He stated that his stepping down is the best for his party as well as his country, Times Now reported.

However, he endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to the top post and called Democrats to support her. The 81-year-old, who dislodged Donald Trump from the throne in 2020, was praised by his granddaughter and supported by his wife in his decision.

He took to X to announce his decision to bow out, while it was only a matter of months before the next elections. There was mounting pressure in his own Democratic party for him to step down from the race. Following his post announcing his decision, First Lady Jill Biden retweeted the post.

Biden wrote, “It has been the greatest honour of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”

Later, Biden mentioned his government’s achievements in economic progress, historic investments, healthcare and veteran’s services, significant climate legislation and the appointment of the first African American woman to the Supreme Court. The President also praised the African American people’s role in overcoming challenges such as pandemic and economic crisis.

Biden’s granddaughter wrote on X, appreciating him, “Not only has been- and will continue to be- the most effective president of our lifetime, but he has likely already cemented himself as the most effective and impactful public servant in our nation’s history.”
