Instagram is delving into the realm of artificial intelligence (AI) with a purported AI message-writing feature.

Recent leaks, courtesy of mobile developer Alessandro Paluzzi, suggest that this feature will empower users to rewrite, paraphrase, and stylistically tweak their messages within Instagram's direct messages (DM). The leaked screenshot showcases a tantalising option – "Write With AI" – which becomes available when users select and highlight text in a chat box.

While precise details about the AI message-writing feature remain elusive, Paluzzi hinted at its potential functionality. Comparing it to Google's Magic Compose, he suggested that it might paraphrase messages in different styles.

This positions the feature as an AI text editor, offering capabilities such as rewriting, summarising, altering tonality and style structure, and adding contextual content. Importantly, users must initiate the AI interaction by selecting and highlighting the text.

It's noteworthy that Instagram's current AI capabilities allow it to generate content when users tag "@Meta AI" followed by a message in any chat. The AI responds to the tagged message, visible to others in the chat, but it cannot autonomously generate messages within the text field.

This technology, powered by Meta AI, is currently available exclusively in the United States.

In a separate development, Meta's newest social media platform, Threads, is experimenting with a new feature.

Users may soon enjoy the ability to bookmark their favorite posts within Threads by tapping on the "Save" option.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri, who also oversees Threads, likened this functionality to Instagram's Bookmark feature. While an official rollout date has not been announced, beta testers and regular users can anticipate its arrival in the near future.
