Rare yellow Assamese tea sold for Rs 1 lakh/kg at auction
text_fieldsA rare type of organic tea grown in Assam's Golaghat district, Pabhojan Gold Tea, was sold for Rs 1 lakh per kilogram at an auction centre in Jorhat. It was the highest price of the year and purchased by Esah Tea, an Assam-based tea brand.
The special tea is made from the choicest second flush tips plucked from the tea estate. Tips of the tea leaves have a gold hue which imparts a bright yellow colour to the beverage. It also has a soothing after-taste.
Pabhojan Organic Tea Estate's owner Rakhi Dutta Saikia said they produced one kg of this rare variety of tea. "We are delighted at this new record-breaking price. It is something that will help the Assam Tea Industry regain its lost fame".
She added that the estate manufactured the special variety due to high demand from discerning consumers, tea connoisseurs, and buyers for this type of premium quality specialty tea. Pabhojan tea estate owned by Arin Tea Private Ltd is known for popularising Tea Ceremony in India. Saikia believes that tea enjoys high esteem in socio-religious rituals. There are traditions of serving tea during religious functions and social functions are incomplete without it.
Bijit Sarma, CEO of Esah Tea, said the Pabhojan Gold Tea will help the brand provide its customers with one of the finest tea blends from Assam. He added that it is an experience in a cup for tea connoisseurs because it is a rare variety. "Our customers are spread across the globe and will understand the taste and value of this variety. We are glad to be able to continue with our mission to provide them with authentic Assam tea flavours".
