After successful hand transplant, hospital claims 1st in India

Mumbai: After a successful unilateral hand transplant, the Global Hospital, which conducted the surgery on an 18-year-old woman, claimed that the surgery was the first of its kind in India, Asian News International reported.

ANI writes that the woman, named Samya Mansoori, received the best gift for her birthday. Samya, a native of Gujarat’s Baruch, had been born without her right hand.

Samya told ANI that she is really happy and is looking forward to doing many things with her hand. There were a lot of things going on in her mind when she first heard that she was going to get a hand. She even had dreams that she was going to do a lot of things with the hand, like driving, she said.

She said that when she was younger, she was taunted by her classmates for not having a hand. She used to stay away from public places too. Now no one will say anything about a disability, she said. She urged people to actively donate organs so other people could improve their lives.

She further talked about her life ambitions. A Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) student, Samya said that she wanted to become a police officer and work in the cyber police team after completing her MCA also.

Samya’s mother, Shenaaz Mansoori, said that she was the happiest person at the moment. She said that they had been searching for a hand for Samya for the last five years. Doctors had said that the surgery would be possible only after the girl turned 18.
