What has come out of the Doha Summit?

The most significant development that shocked the world in the past week was the September 9th Israeli missile attack on Hamas leaders who had arrived in Doha for ceasefire talks. It literally flabbergasted the Arab League, OIC, and GCC, of which Qatar is a member. The Zionist state launched missiles at peace-restoring efforts when the ongoing ceasefire talks in Qatar, with the support of Israel’s protector the US, were looked to be about to reach a decisive stage. After claiming to have targeted Hamas leaders, the subsequent rhetoric of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave away his true intensions. Cloaked in the call for complete elimination of Hamas was the denial of the very concept of a Palestinian state itself. Military operations aimed at that goal are systematically underway in the West Bank and Gaza. While claiming to be participating in the talks for the release of the hostages, it takes just commonsense to understand that Netanyahu and his acolytes have no honesty beyond holding together their people by misleading them. The latest Doha attack has confirmed that factor. Although Netanyahu and Donald Trump have publicly stated that the attack was not authorized by the United States, no one else in the world has taken it seriously. On September 12, when Saudi Arabia and France took the lead in presenting the two-state solution of Palestine and Israel at the United Nations General Assembly, the United States voted against it, giving the world the message that the country was backing away from the two-state solution it had hitherto pushed as a solution. The broader Israeli plan, which is not limited to the declared goal of eliminating Hamas, is seemingly to establish a Jewish state with the full knowledge and support of the U.S by annexing the neighboring countries of Syria, Jordan, and Lebanon as well as the territories inhabited by the former Jewish tribes in Arabia.

The joint summit of the Islamic Conference and the Arab League held in Doha on Monday cannot be said to be stemmed from realizing the depth and scope of this Zionist movement, which is a threat to world peace itself. However, the leaders of more than sixty countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, Egypt, and the GCC, met in Doha at the invitation of the Emir of Qatar and brought to the attention of the world some serious issues in a communiqué after serious deliberations. It calls for resisting the Israeli project of annexing Arab territories piecemeal and reject the subsequent claims for the lands. It calls for taking urgent action in accordance with international law and relevant resolutions against Israel’s threats and violations of the sovereignty, security, and stability of other states. The Doha Summit also warns that peace cannot be established in the Middle East without a comprehensive, just and sustainable solution to the Palestinian issue. Although the Arab-Muslim summit concluded with the release of a twenty-five point joint statement, it remains to be seen what value Trump-Netanyahu will attach to it. The statement, however, did not mention the call for a joint arms resistance raised at the Doha summit. It maybe that in today’s complex environs its practicality requires serious pondering. However, a call for boycotting the corporations that directly or indirectly support the rogue state of Israel could put the Trump-Netanyahu team in intense pressure from within their countries forcing them to at least consider resolving the matter.
