Is end to the war in Gaza in the offing?
text_fieldsForty-four days into the Israel-Hamas war, as yet unconfirmed reports say both sides have consented for a temporary truce. According to Informed sources the conciliation led by Gulf country Qatar may well pave the way for cease-fire. If the talks involving US President Joe Biden, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Former Prime Minister of Gaza Ismail Haniyeh prove to be successful, it will be quite a comfort for all peace-loving people on the planet. Within one and a half months, as many as 13,300 people including more than 5,600 children and 3,550 women were killed alongside reported missing of more than 6,000. Come to that, more than 31,000 were injured. At least one in every 200 people in the densely populated Gaza became martyr. As per reliable figures a child was brutally killed in every ten minutes. Estimates about the number of houses, school, hospitals, and places of worship destroyed in the war are yet to come out. How a people continue to hold out all these days despite having been denied water, electricity, and transport should be treated as one of the wonders of the world. Alongside Israel sealing all the gates to Gaza, there was only controlled opening of the remaining Rafah Tunnel to Egypt due to pressures. Only 20 trucks have been allowed through it to deliver essential goods daily. Zionist regime paid no attention to the Red Cross’s appeal for allowing at least 100 trucks daily to ferrying essential to sustain the lives of 23 lakh people. Gaza is doubtlessly witnessing cruelties with no parallels in recent history.
Early reports say that the ceasefire is for just five days. That too with the caveat that Hamas should release 50-100 hostages and reciprocally, Israel will release Palestinian women and children from its prisons. Hamas, according to sources, will use the interval to treat the wounded and supply essentials to Gaza residents. If at all Israel signs a temporary agreement, in the light of experience it is hard to say the country will keep to it. However, it is observed that Netanyahu will have to give in to the pressure from within the country and without. One cannot rule out the possibility for an end to the war considering certain facts: the anger and disappointment alongside the strengthening protest in Israel over delay in release of hostages, the war expenditure to the tune of billions of dollars destroying the economy of the Jewish country as it is becoming a burden even for the US despite taking the protection of Israel, set back to Netanyahu’s dreams who happily declared that everything would conclude as they calculated, the untimely death of the Abraham Accords that the Zionist nation signed under the watch of the US, the growing anti-war protests happening around the world including in the US, Britain and Canada with unprecedented participation of Jews.
What is the outcome for Hamas that has ventured out for motherland and birthrights? They have already achieved their goal by confronting the Zionist nation equipped with ultra-modern technology. Having decided between life and death, they spent two years planning to take on Israel, thus convincing the world that the Palestinian cause is a life-issue which should be solved rather than relegated to dustbin of history. It is also proved that notwithstanding being ditched by dictators and monopolists, people are ready to express their support for Palestinians shouting it louder than ever shaking the regimes. Everybody from Biden to Narendra Modi says that establishing two states is the final solution to Palestinian problem. The intuitive understanding of Saudi, Jordan and Egypt to tag along China, the superpower that takes on Yankee imperialism, to seek a solution to the crisis showed visible signs like the visit of an OIC delegation to Beijing. Peace-loving people are yearning and praying for success of the efforts in this direction.
