Unannounced restriction in the border: Goods truck delayed, affects vegetable market
text_fieldsThiruvananthapuram: Goods trucks bound to Kerala are getting delayed as stringent restrictions are in place in Tamil Nadu border. Vehicles loaded with essentials like fruits and vegetables are being stopped at the border.
Tamil Nadu made measures stringent as more Covid positive cases were reported in Kerala. Trucks with loads taken from Kerala and those vehicles returning after off loading goods are stranded at the border.
Delay of the vehicles are affecting the vegetable markets. Most of the items including onion are sold at higher prices ranging from Rs. 2 to Rs. 6 per kilo.
Kerala, which rely on neighbouring states for essential items including cereals and vegetables, will face severe crisis, if the goods traffic halt.
Drivers hailing from other states also hesitate to drive to Kerala. It is learnt that the drivers who return from Kerala placed under isolation for 14 days.
Crisis in the border is followed after a day, vegetable distribution was disrupted as part of Janata Curfew.
Measures have taken to deploy drivers from Kerala to gather essentials considering the hesitation of neighbouring states.
The district collectors also are preparing list of truck owners to ensure truck availability.
