Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government here on Tuesday included Khambhat town of the Anand district in the Disturbed Area Act following the communal riots on Sunday, and removed Anand Superintendent of Police (SP) Makrand Chauhan and Khambhat Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Reema Munshi.

Ahmedabad (traffic) DCP Ajit and ACB Gujarat DSP Bharti Pandya have replaced Chauhan and Munshi, respectively.

"We will check the CCTV footage to take strict action against the perpetrators of violence. 47 rioters have been arrested and four complaints lodged," said Pradeepsinh Jadeja, Minister of State for Home.

The police were combing the area, Jadeja said. He also blamed the Congress attempting to disturb the peace through its politics of appeasement.
