Centre likely to link Aadhaar with voter ID soon

New Delhi:  The Centre is mulling over amending Aadhaar Act for linking Unique Identification Number to electoral roll.

The move is aimed at what the government said removing bogus entries, and thus cleaning up the electoral rolls.

It could allow remote voting rights as well, report say.

The law ministry has reportedly informed of the same to Election Commission during a discussion held here to look into electoral reforms.

The amendment will allow the Election Commission to link Aadhaar with voter identity card.

The law ministry might take up the matter with the Union Cabinet for the decision. The linking is expected to start before Bihar Assembly election to be held later this year.
