Mumbai: The students of IIT Bombay also have come out demanding justice in the death of Fathima Latif, a student who committed suicide in the hostel of IIT Madras last week.

In a statement, the IIT-B students accused that the premier institutes of the country always fail to ensure the security and mechanisms to protect their students hailing from diverse backgrounds, as guaranteed by the constitution and that the mysterious death of Fathima Latif is the latest instance. Hence, the statement said, the death should be treated as a case of institutional murder and not as a suicide.

Around hundred students took part in the protest held on Tuesday under the banner of IIT Bombay for Justice.  The students also sought for fair probe against Professor Sudarshan Padmanabhan of IIT Madras and his suspension until the probe is completed, constitute cells for students hailing from diverse backgrounds and implement reservation in admission of students and faculty recruitment in all public institutions.

Ambedkar Periyar Phule Study Circle, Ambedkarites Students Collective, North East Collective, Malayali Charchavedi and other organisations took part in the protest. Students of IIT Delhi also came out in solidarity with the protest. The students said that the protest will be spread to other campuses across the country.
