New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has directed the removal of the song Vol One, performed by Yo Yo Honey Singh and Badshah under the group Mafia Mundeer, from all digital platforms, citing its explicit and degrading portrayal of women. The track, originally released in 2006, has come under renewed scrutiny following a recent live performance in Mumbai where the controversial lyrics were reportedly repeated.

The order was issued by Justice Purushindra Kaurav while hearing a petition filed by Hindu Shakti Dal. During proceedings, the court examined the lyrics directly and concluded that they were deeply offensive and unacceptable in a civilised society. The judge reportedly found the content so explicit that even referencing the song by name in the formal order was avoided.

The court underscored that such material cannot be shielded under claims of artistic freedom or freedom of expression, particularly when it promotes obscenity and insults to women. It further observed that commercial motives cannot justify the dissemination of content that violates basic social standards.

In a sweeping directive, the court ordered the removal of all versions of the song, including audio, video, remixes and related content, from major platforms such as YouTube, Spotify and Google services. The singers and associated rights holders have also been instructed to withdraw the material entirely.

The case highlights growing judicial intervention against misogynistic content in popular media. The matter is scheduled for further hearing on May 7.
