New Delhi: An MBA degree holder was arrested for allegedly duping people to the tune of over Rs 1 crore by providing them fake air tickets while being employed with a travel agency at central Delhi, a police officer said on Tuesday.

Sandeep Kumar Jha (30), a resident of east Delhi's Khajoorikhas, was a proclaimed offender in a cheating case registered against him at Barakhamba Road Police Station. He was on Monday arrested on a tip-off when a team of Crime Branch raided his hideout in south Delhi's Sun Light colony.

"Jha was a notorious cheat and had duped many people by offering them fake air tickets on cheap prices. He was also wanted by Rajasthan, Maharashtra and other states' police in similar cases," said Additional Commissioner of Police Rajiv Ranjan.

"It was found that while working for a travel agency in Connaught Place, he duped many people," Ranjan said.

"He was on March 8 declared a proclaimed offender by Patiala House Court," the officer added.

"During interrogation, Jha, an MBA in Hospitality, said he had managed to convince the travel agency proprietor that he could arrange cheaper air tickets. After he gained trust of his employer, he started cheating the agency and innocent travelers by issuing fake air tickets," said Ranjan.
