Amit Shah’s Immigration statistics flawed

New Delhi: Amit Shah’s statement in parliament regarding the statistics of minorities in three Muslim majority nations in the neigbhourhood turns out to be erroneous.

According to him, population of minorities in these countries is dwindling. While still, the prosecution on the basis of religion continues.

The non-Muslim population in Pakistan was 23 per cent in 1951, but it has come down to a great extent.  But in West Pakistan or what is today Pakistan the Hindu population is down by 1.5 per cent from what it was in 1951.

Amit Shah’s statistic came without considering formation of East Pakistan or Bangladesh. The Hindu population in Bangladesh in 1951 was 23 percent which came down to 8 percent, as per 2011 census.

It points at the Hindu migration to India.  CAB aims at giving these migrants citizenship turning them into a vote bank in the northeast.

Pakistan in 1970 declared the Ahmadiyya as non-Muslims; with 40 lakhs, they make up the largest minority in Pakistan.

CAB does not figure them in the list of immigrants to be welcomed in India. The minorities in Afghanistan is just 0.3 per cent. As per 2018 census, only 700 Sikh, Hindu families are left behind there.

Hindus held various top positions including chief justice in Bangladesh and Pakistan.
