New Delhi: The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) sought a report from Maharashtra Forest Department on tigress Avni’s killing.

"If we are not satisfied [with the description of events] on whether the animal was executed following established procedure, we will conduct our own investigation,” The Hindu quoted Arup Nayak, Director, NTCA as saying.

The apex boy is expecting the report by Monday.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Maneka Gandhi came down on Maharashtra government for allowing a hunter to kill the animal.

She dubbed it as “patently illegal.”

The Women and Child Development Minister said she would take up the issue with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

The tigress, who is said to have killed 13 people, was killed by a civilian hunter Asgar Ali on November 2.
